What is your favorite food, Sam?
Well, my favorite food is apples. But I do like macaroni and cheese. And I eat a lot of spinach and broccoli. I really do. Call me "Sammy popeye" if you want. Green food keeps me strong and healthy. Do you eat food that has bright colors? If you do you can be really alive and colorful too!

Hey Sam, what is your favorite sport?
Skateboarding is my best sport. And I like soccer, but sometimes people think I am the ball. Definitely not good. I like to climb trees too. That's not really a sport for most people, but it is for me. And sleep. I wicked like to sleep. Zzzzz

What's your favorite color?
Green, although it used to be red, and sometimes I like orange a lot.

What's your favorite book, Sam? Castle in the Attic by Elizabeth Winthrop. I love picture books too, because I love to draw! My other favorite book is Sam Snail in The Mystery of Queen Lake. That is a really great book because it has a hero who is really brave. He's smart too and everyone thinks he's really cute.

Do you have other shells? Yes, I have really nice shells in different colors. I like the green one the best. It's good if I'm out in the grass or a field. I blend in. Sometimes it's good to blend in. Sometimes it's good to stand out.

Are you alive, Sam? Of course I am alive! I am a real live snail puppet. Why do people keep asking that? I went to school, I learned my ABC's and I learned how to talk.

Note from Lesley Smith: People do ask this question a lot and I like to explain that puppeteers often use a technique called ventriloquism. I don't like to bring this up in front of Sam because it upsets him. So bear with us on this one!

I have different shells. I thought that they grew with me, but they don't. I have to have new ones as I get big. I like the green one the best. I once thought a basketball was my shell. Really. I'm glad it wasn't. Way too heavy for me.

I talk because I have so much to say. Lesley says that some puppets can talk because the puppeteer makes them talk. It is called ventriloquism. I say I talk because I want to! I don't do what Lesley says all the time. I do like to read. That makes you a better talker. But I like to talk the best.
